Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, Research Associate, California Academy of Sciences and founder of Blue MInd Life.
Have you ever wondered why the sounds of ocean waves are so soothing? Have you sought solace in a walk in the woods? Or found joy in the call of a loon? Dr. Wallace J. Nichols’ presentation will begin to explain why we feel this connection to the natural world and encourage us to inspire this feeling in others. Dr. Nichols, who is known as J, is a scientist, activist, community organizer, and author and he works to inspire a deeper connection with nature. Birds and turtles make us happy. And we love them. Which are two big reasons why we are here. J will be talking to us about his inquiry into the application of cognitive science to biodiversity conservation, beginning with a project linking former sea turtle hunters to form a network of ocean advocates. He will introduce us to an emerging field called neuroconservation.
