DiCaprio Documentary Features Two UA Connections

Leo DiCaprio's latest film, "11th Hour," a documentary due to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, includes two connections to The University of Arizona.
DiCaprio's film - which he directs and narrates - features interviews with thoughtful and notable folks from a range of disciplines. The central thread running through the documentary is the impact of humans on the earth's environment. The film is planned for general release later this year.
One of those interviewed is noted physician Dr. Andrew Weil, the founder and director of the program in integrative medicine at the UA College of Medicine, who talked "about the urgent need to mend our ways if we are to survive as a species."
The other link to the UA is former graduate student Wallace J. Nichols, a wildlife biologist and an authority on sea turtles.
Nichols, who earned a doctorate in 2003 from the UA School of Natural Resources, is a senior scientist at the Ocean Conservancy. He also is president of Ocean Revolution, which encourages young people to get involved in ocean ecology.
