In 1996, local sea turtle researcher Wallace "J" Nichols attached a tracking device to a 233-pound loggerhead turtle he had named Adelita.
Adelita swam in the waters of Baja California, sunning and feasting on the rich sea life, as the equipment monitored her whereabouts.
Then one day, Adelita plunged into the ocean and never looked back, swimming for 368 days to Japan where her transmitter finally went dark. Since then, J, as he is called, has tracked many more turtles.
But Adelita, and her journey, will be the focus of a PBS documentary called "Voyage of the Lonely Turtle," which will debut on April 15 at 8 p.m. on KQED. J's research, by the way, helped scientists learn about the loggerheads' migration back to their birthplace to lay their eggs and why no nesting beaches for the turtles were found in Baja.

Singing 7-year-old
There were a lot of surprised looks on faces when 7-year-old Kellen Leach showed up to join the Gold Standard Chorus barbershop singing group.
Kellen was the first elementary-school-aged singer to join the group, which started in 1989.
