Coastal Trail Expedition Anniversary

Friends,
September 22nd, 2004 is the one year anniversary of the completion of our 1,200-mile trek from Oregon to Mexico.
Many of you participated in that expedition in one way or another, which is why I'm writing to you. With a year to think on the experience I understand more about that 4-month trek and remember less detail with each day. Here's some of what I know.
-Coastal wilderness has become scarce in our country, we must protect the last bits that are left because they are magical places.
-If you ever have the opportunity to take a long, long walk DO IT. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. You'll see things you never imagined.
-There are many heroes along our coasts, working every day to keep their sacred places whole. Help them when you can. Join them or their organizations and volunteer a few hours. Let us know if you need help finding them!
-We need an Ocean Revolution to revive the movement that resulted in so many gains for our coasts and oceans in the 1970's. We need to put less junk in to our oceans and take fewer animals out. Less IN, Less OUT. And we must PROTECT the edge. I think the revolution will truly thrive with young people leading the way.
-Support our Wilderness Act (no roads!), which just turned 40, and California's Marine Life Protection Act, which has yet to be enacted. VOTE the ENVIRONMENT (you know what I mean).
-Take your kids or your friends' kids out into nature as often as possible. For our daughter Grayce our coastal expedition and the 100 nights in a tent set her along on a lifetime of respect for and enjoyment of nature.
